Since its introduction, the Öhlins DFV line has revolutionized coilovers, and as a result, no longer are customers forced to choose between performance and ride quality. The Öhlins DFV valving design made it possible to have a truly track worthy damper that was also not only livable, but actually comfortable on the street, without sacrifice to performance driving and handling. As suspension engineers, the one thing that always frustrated us was being forced into a one-size-fits box of suspension. The vast majority of our Ohlins customers ultimately decide to purchase new springs for their DFVs, and we designed this SBG Exclusive FPSport suspension kit around the most popular setups amongst our customers, with enough range to  spring rates.  We include custom top hats with teflon lines spherical bearings.  The optimized valving curves offer much improved ride quality over the standard DFV kit, and elevated performance out of the box. For roughly the cost of a DFV kit and replacement springs, this kit is a no-brainer for any FD RX7 driver!

Optimized Springs and Valving

While no two drivers or cars are the same, the vast majority of our customers choose to optimize the Ohlins kits for a square tire setup.  The standard Ohlins kit (11/11kg) was deceloped for the Japanese spec RS/RZ cars running a staggerd tire setup (235/255).  In the US most FD's run a sqare tire setup, and the increase in front rate and decrease in rear rate both gives more rear grip (for high HP cars) and also a more comfortable street experience, while increasing front turn-in and sharpness with the 12kg up front.  The result is an overall improvement in both traction and ride quality.  The valving curve is carefully balanced for comfort and performance driving, best of both worlds with the Ohlins patented Dual Flow Valve (DFV)... massive cornering grip without sacrificing comfort!  We feel that this setup hits a sweet spot for a modified FD RX7, and will be the last set of suspension you'll ever buy for your FD.

Custom Billet Aluminum Tophat with Teflon Lined Spherical Bearings 

Made from billet 6061 aluminum as well, no cost was spared on the design and production of our floating top hats.  The standard Ohlins tophats are stamped from sheet aluminum, while our custom billet top hats are lathed and milled from solid billet aluminum for increased rigidity.  Included High-load Teflon lined spherical bearings by Aurora, provide high strength, silent articulation, and will never rust.  The fully floating top hat design eliminates bending loads on the shock shaft as the suspension moves through it's arc of articulation, not only allowing the shock and spring to remain in perfect alignment and perform more consistently, this style top hat also increases the life of the shocks due to the removal of bending loads and side loads on the shaft!  A true motorsports chassis interface!

Same Dual Flow Valve Technology That You Have Came to Love

Derived from Öhlins Racing heritage, the DFV is uniquely able to provide the damping support needed to snake through a slalom at an autocross yet being silky smooth while attacking curbs and berms at the track. The standard Öhlins DFV kit has become the defacto road & track damper choice for the FD RX7 and many other platforms due to its impressive combination of body control during aggressive driving while maintaining ride comfort on rough roads. The simple fact is: no other damper near this price point has the ability to keep up.  Ohlins party piece is their ultra high speed valving path which reduces damping force at high shock velocities.  Translation:  The DFV gets *softer* than the standard performance valving when you hit a pothole, mid-corner bump, or curbing on track, for you to stay flat out in corners while soaking up mide corner bumps that would normally be transfered to the chassis.  On the street, potholes and bumps are soaked up gracefully, and curbing on track is no longer intimidating or upsetting to the chassis.  The technology that makes the DFV's good on the street, is what also makes them a force to be reckoned with on track.   This patented technology from Ohlins makes the DFV's a secret weapon on track and a stealthy suspension upgrade for the street.  Think firm yet supple, you will not be disappointed.
